The word recovery always reminds me of carpet & furniture -- to "re-cover", change, renew, regenerate, redo.
It also makes me think of plastic surgery which insurance providers use as an umbrella term for this & similar gender related surgeries. The series of images below are from the first 8 days of recovery. The procedure, filed as a "bilateral mastectomy" on paper, removed my breasts on 12/12/16.
You will also notice purple markings left behind from the surgical markers used by the surgeon. Two, Jackson-Pratt drains were installed with stitches just beneath the left and right side of where the incisions were made. The drains were a crucial part of the initial healing process.
