PHOTOGRAPHER - ARTIST - COMMUNITY ORGANIZER & ACTIVIST
The Pride & Joy Project is my first independent portrait series focusing on queer mothers* and their families. The Pride & Joy Project seeks to change the global conversation about our queer families and strengthen our community through the power of storytelling, photography, and social media.
At it's core it's a family portrait series. On a larger scale it highlights a community of queer women & mothers* that have far too often been marginalized and misrepresented in the media and society. It is my hope that by sharing these photographs and stories we can strengthen the community, and create a beautiful, visual archive of our families that will be a source of strength and pride for generations to come.
The Pride & Joy Project has been featured in O! The Oprah Magazine, San Francisco Magazine, LezBeMommies Radio Podcast, Jeanne Magazine, A Bicycle Built for Two, RoundHouse Radio - 98.3 Vancouver, and more!
Visit: The Pride & Joy Project
In January of 2016, several families from The Pride & Joy Project encouraged me to create a facebook group for us to keep in touch. I went onto facebook and created a group called Queer Mamas*. Queer Mamas* has since grown into a global community of over 17,000 members from around the world.
Queer Mamas* is a direct result of The Pride & Joy Project and highlights the need for queer spaces that create community both online and off. Queer Mamas* is a peer-to-peer space to share, connect, and learn. The primary intention of the group is to provide an online community space that is queer woman/queer mother, and queer parent centric -- this includes our trans and gender non-conforming parents as well.
